Dear reader, it is a year since the rise of the idea and formation of the social organization, United Youth Social Action (U.Y.S.A) at Kibaha Secondary school. The organization was founded on November 15th 2010. We send our special thanks and appreciation to all who willingly supported the idea and made it a reality.
Since its founding, United Youth Social Action has been undertaking different social activities that are within our immediate society. We have been involving with charity donations like paying visits to orphanages and making donations, example in January 2011 we paid a visit to Mgolole orphanage in Morogoro and in February to Buloma orphanage near our school.
Furthermore U.Y.S.A has been trying to create equal educational opportunities for every child in the community and in mid-April we initiated a Tutoring and Mentoring program at Buloma orphanage through which members from Kibaha Secondary school volunteer to tutor the primary school pupils on every Saturdays and now we have even started the program of composing and correcting tests for the children whom we have been reaching through the Tutoring and Mentoring program - last two weeks we gave them the first test and their scores were remarkable.
As U.Y.S.A celebrates the 1st anniversary, we decided to hold the ceremony at Buloma orphanage and celebrate together with the kids. The ceremony was held on November 12th 2011 at the orphanage. It was also a day to award certificates of appreciation to some of the students from the Form six graduating class, who have been supporting us since the first time we got the idea. Twenty two students were awarded the certificates.
During the ceremony different activities were prepared such as songs and poems from the kids, drama from U.Y.S.A members, inspirational speeches from other members and many other fun activities like members reciting their childhood songs and singing together with the kids. The songs sang by the children mainly carried a message to the society on oppression, humiliation of street children, and child labor. They greatly opposed the violation of children's rights and insisted on the right for education for every child.
The speeches from U.Y.S.A members mainly emphasized on self-awareness and self-esteem. Through their speeches they tried to point out the importance of youth to be the agents of positive change in the society and directly impact the immediate communities in which we live. They also alarmed on the changes that have been taking place due to the rise of technology and globalization.
Each member who stood to give a speech, took some minutes to encourage and inspire the children to work hard at school and towards achieving their goals, 'YOU SHOULD NEVER GIVE UP'. This session also involved text-books donation, we donated English, Mathematics and Science books for the children to study; this books will be helpful when tutoring the children on Saturdays.
The next session involved a drama from members and poems from the children. In the afternoon we had lunch together with the children and later on we sang the childhood songs together with the children. The kids were very happy.
In the end, the Orphanage matron closed the session and it was not long before it started raining outside.
Dear readers, we are very sorry that we published this a bit late. We could have done it earlier but we had no access to the internet for some weeks.
